Best of the West
Best of the West is a collaboration between AMI
Quartet and the Danish string quartet 4Corners. On commision from
4Corners Anne Mette wrote the jazz-suite "Best of the West"
in 4 movements: East, South, West and North, which expresses a variety
in feeling and emotion that bring into attention the multifaceted
world we live in; one which requires open-mindedness and a focus
on comminucation between cultures as a central ingredient in our
lives.
This theme is underlined in the music particularly in that the string-quartet
and the jazz-quartet maintain their identity and individuality throughout
the piece. Unlike most meetings of jazz and classical music, where
one style performs a subservient role, or both styles are diluted
beyond recognition, "Best of the West" manages to present
each group and style at it's most compelling, while illustrating
the beauty of the interactive process and the mutual support. |

Anne Mette Iversen Group
Released the CD "På den anden side/On the Other
Side" in 2004 and has since toured Denmark with great succes. The
music is written to Danish poetry, sung in Danish and accompanied by jazz
quintet and string quartet.
This project is modern Danish vocal jazz with very lyrical and sophisticated
songs, and showcases Anne Mette's ability to capture and further
transform the essence in the poems, both in the melodic material
and in the intricate compositions and arrangements. Go to Sound and listen for yourself. |
